My Great Interior Design Challenge

Once again I felt like creating something. With my bare hands. I never really get dirty with anything.

I haven’t been sleeping very well for as long as we moved to this flat. At first I guess it was the lack of bed as we (not being able to afford one) had to sleep on cheap mattresses. Later on we got a bed but still I woke up many times during the night and I started to think about stuff that happened that day or would happen the next. I never had this problem before, what ever was going on in my life it never effected my sleep.

Inspired by my Interior design course and of course the Great Interior Design Challenge show in the TV I wanted to look into the Feng Shui of bedrooms.

There are so many “rules” that I think it is impossible to achieve perfect balance when your room is small. However I found some things I could actually change. Our double bed lies in the corner of the room which means that it is not approachable from my partner’s side. Apparently that causes imbalance in our relationship (and even though I think our relationship is pretty good) there are a few things in which we could be more equal. So I decided to move the bed and get a bedside cabinet for his side.

Luckily I found one on ebay that could be bought either painted or unpainted. Since they didn’t have a colour I liked I could convince my partner to get the unpainted one. It has arrived pretty fast and I was looking forward to do it today. Especially because I have never done anything like this before (which also means that I have no clue about paints, dyes, stains, sanding papers or solvents – but that’s just makes things more exciting.).

This morning we had a look around in our local Wilkinsons and found the exact colour we wanted that is an Antique Pine dye. We also bought some varnish to treat the wood afterwards plus gloves and brushes.

We got some tea-lights (at Sports Direct!!!) and a candle because apparently that is the most desirable lighting in a bedroom.

I’m still itching to start because it turned out to be a pretty miserable, wet day and I was told that I’m not allowed to do it IN the flat and that I really should postpone it till next summer!!!

Well, I won’t wait that long. The forecast is fine for Monday so fingers crossed.

Has anyone have any experience in wood painting/dyeing, maybe a word of warning or advice?

Bognor Regis

Even if not once in a lifetime but we had once in a summertime heat in Britain last weekend. To celebrate and enjoy the unique weather we decided to go to the seaside. And to avoid the crowed of Brighton we chose a less popular destination – Bognor Regis.

Bognor Regis. It’s got a full name requiring some respect, maybe I should have said “We went to see Mr Regis”.

I expected it to be an old, cosy town with a kind of wisdom of the ocean in it and it didn’t disappoint us. It was welcoming and made us feel comfortable straight away. There were plenty of space to sit or even lie down and the sun was beautifully warm.

It wasn’t full of young party animals, there were rather young families and old people, so if anyone feels like in need of a calm day by the sea just book a ticket to Bognor Regis.

On and off

OMG I’ve got a blog to write!

It’s not that I have absolutely no time for it or I got bored of my camera, oh no, not at all! We’ve had a fun time together. OK, on writing front I wasn’t very active lately to be honest but let’s hope I’m getting back on track.

So here are a few pics I took in the past few weeks:

And now I have to run to work…

First Day With My First DSLR

I had nightmares. That I would be late and I wouldn’t get my camera, or I’d only find the camera body but not the lens in the box or that it would arrive damaged and I couldn’t even get a refund.

I woke up three times this morning, twice too early to get up.  When my alarm went off at seven thirty my first thought was that Royal Mail had been open for a half an hour and I’m still in my bed!! Okay, I didn’t really panic.

I wrote my Morning Pages and then without breakfast (!!!) left home. I was back within an hour opening the box and finding all the parts in it and putting it together and panicking and looking for the manuals and finding only on CD and downloading it and finding out everything was fine and feeling as excited  as children do at Christmas time.

Then I had to go to meet up a friend so I didn’t get to the end of my readings but I took it with me and I was playing with it all afternoon. And it was sooooo COOOOL.

I also received the long forgotten Novel Writing Kit from Writing Magazine for my subscription.

And today after five months I sent off my homework to my tutor so I think this day should be remembered and celebrated forever.

APE – “After Paris Effects”

Oh, how much I love being a tourist! A tourist in Paris especially!

Instead of feeling tired after two days non-stop walking I feel energized, I feel alive again.

And I want more. More days, weeks, months – more cities! I want to explore the whole continent!

And I want to draw it, photograph it,

I want to see every colour, hear lovers whisper and pen their stories.

And I want a black cat…

Fun, Fun, Fun!

It is so nice to go out and have a drink (or two) with friends after work.

When you forget about everything for a few days and just try to live a normal life, with normal things, and plans you could not afford on a daily basis (weekly/monthly) but sometimes you need – if you want to survive.

I bought a pair of shoes. Black laced high heels, a bit wild but pretty feminine. Probably I can’t do a whole night in them and enjoying myself at the same time… So what’s the use??? – These are the shoes I needed. For my self-esteem – or call it whatever you prefer.

I’m going for a concert. Quimby is coming to London on the 14th of May. They are my favourite Hungarian band, and probably the most popular alternative rock band in my country. The one to be proud of.

And I’m going to Paris for two days next week. Can’t wait!

Okay, I want a DSLR but at the moment I’m not prepared to withdraw all these sources of joy from my life so that after a few months I could buy one. I need to be happy NOW. Despite of the never ending grey, cold and rainy weather. Despite of some trouble at work. (Despite of being one of ten thousand. – inside joke, sorry.) I’m going to have fun NOW.

And I’m going to have fun tomorrow. And I’m going to have fun next Wednesday and Thursday and next Friday. And I’m going to have fun the Monday after. That’s what people are supposed to do, isn’t it?

Back to the Path

I know I’m still pretty amateur at everything I do (writing, drawing etc.) and I know that it’s fine for now, still I feel like I’m stuck. It is not a coincidence that I didn’t really show up here or anywhere else. Okay, I was on my holiday for a week and of course I had a lot of things to do, a lot of people to meet so -I think it’s a good excuse- I didn’t write or draw anything. I took some pics though. (Our garden at home is magical!)

I’m trying to get back to my creativity and enthusiasm but the thing is I don’t know where to start. I want everything at the same time which means I’m not doing anything. So I’m making a schedule. Today at 3 PM I’m going to write something. (Not my novel though because I ended up not liking the story that I’d planned…not a big surprise I guess.) At about 5 PM I’ll switch to drawing. Or at least let’s hope that I’ll do so. Also I’m going to add a creative activity to every day in my calender and train my willpower to keep it.

In the meantime I should try and meet some friends whom I haven’t seen for ages but that takes time. I really don’t feel like spending every evening alone though, especially now that I’m back from home and I feel a bit lonely. Which I know will pass soon as it always does. So let’s rearrange my life!
